EMS Annual Meeting

The Annual Meetings of the EMS aim at fostering exchange and cross-fertilization of ideas in the meteorological, climatological and related communities, focusing particularly on strategic issues relevant to the future of meteorology in Europe. It is the THE European Conference for Applied Meteorology and Climatology.
The conference provides a platform for all actors of the meteorological and climatological communities: NMHSs, research organizations, private service providers, academia institutions, manufacturers, … Facilitating interactions and convergence of science branches, applications, and actors is the core objective of the EMS Annual Meetings. International and especially pan-European projects, programmes, and initiatives all find room at this conference for networking, dissemination, and brainstorming.
Over the last couple of years the programme committee has developed new activities to support early career scientists, like networking events or meeting up with senior scientists to discuss how to build a career in meteorology.
The meetings are – normally – hosted by one of the EMS Member Societies, thus takes place in a different European country each year. In 2021 the meeting will be held virtually, in 2022 the planned location is Bonn, Germany.
Each year the host institutions propose a topical focus to highlight current challenges through the conference theme. The theme for the 2021 virtual EMS Annual Meeting is Weather and climate research and services for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals: a decade left for action.
